Car Talk had a listener point out that ELEVATORS WORK BACKWARDS.
I love this. The listener suggested that elevators should go non-stop
from the bottom floor to the top floor, so that the highest rent
payers in the building get the best service. Similarly, the down
elevator should go express from the top floor to the bottom floor.
Now, if you wanted to go up from the second floor to the fourth
floor, your car would be the express down elevator returning to
its home up top. Otherwise taking the express elevator up would
cause you to have to have to ride to the bottom floor first in
order to get there (and in the process going strait past the fourth
floor).
